The QB79 is a variant of the Chinese QB78 designed to accept bulk filled CO2 canisters such as those used with paint ball guns. The stock is shortend and a screw on adapter fitted that allows you to connect standard paint ball CO2 tanks and enjoy greatly increased shot counts as a result.


Like the QB78, the QB79 provides a lot of value for your money. The hardwood stock is nicely finished and retains the good lines and ergonomics of the Crosman 160 it emulates. Unlike many of the 160’s however, this wood is smoother and given a darker finish that shines well when polished. The stock on the QB79 is shorter than the QB78's to allow room for the bulk CO2 canister. The barrel on the QB79 is slightly larger in diameter as well to provide greater rigidity on this model.

Later model Crosman 160’s had adjustable triggers, and the QB79’s trigger keeps up with the design allowing for adjustments to travel, pull weight, and sear engagement. The trigger action is clean and predictable, with smoothness as a notable quality.

The power system on the QB79 is designed to do away with standard CO2 cartridges and allow users to utilize standard 2.5 ounce to 9 ounce paintball CO2 tanks no larger than 2 inches in diameter. For a comparison, the QB78 with dual CO2 cartridges generally averages about 50 to 60 shots before performance begins to drop off, while a 3.5 ounce paintball tank will allow over 200 shots before shots begin to lose energy. It is important to note that some 2" diameter tanks are actually slightly larger than 2 inches, which can sometimes result in the tank contacting the barrel. When choosing a tank to use, take care to ensure the tanks outer diameter does not exceed 2" to avoid issues with fit.

Another improvement the QB series makes over the old 160 is the inclusion of a rugged scope mount designed to accept standard 11mm scope rings as well as including adjustable open sights. With the QB79 there is no need for special adapters or modifications to mount some good glass. For overall performance, the QB79 is hard to beat in a modern CO2 powered air rifle. In 177 cal versions velocities around 600FPS are the average at temperatures above 70 degrees, while 22 cal versions hover around the 500 FPS mark. The biggest news here is that the QB79 responds extremely well to tuning and modification, and many owners have seen FPE of 14+ with 22 caliber QB79’s easily achieved. Regarding accuracy, the QB79 is a proven performer and well known for producing tight groups in both .177 and .22 caliber versions, with the edge in accuracy being given to the .177’s. Accuracy from the factory is rated at ½” CTC at 30 yrds which often appears to be a conservative appraisal with many owners achieving 3/8” CTC consistently.
